African Abstract Surrealism

Catherine Timotei ‘s monochromatic drawings after Henry Moore’s sculptures, reflect Moore’s creative tension between figuration and abstraction in a style called Biomorphism. Moore stated that all good art contains the radical, experimental, and Avant- Garde, Abstract and Surrealist, Classic and Romantic  elements  : order & surprise, intellect & imagination, conscious & unconscious. In brief, Surrealist Abstraction rejected geometric shapes , considered sterile and inadequate, in favour of the visual and emotional impact of organic forms of nature: either actual or imagined.
